Cultural Volunteers

The Multaka Project seeks to work with refugee and asylum seekers to develop community engagement in first languages, focusing on Arabic and Farsi languages.

Supported by staff, you will develop a tour or learn to lead a discussion about particular objects within the museums and collections in your first language. The Multaka project is also open to hearing new and creative ways you wish to engage with the museums and gallery collections. We encourage you to bring your own personal skills, experience and interests to the project.

It is hoped that, this opportunity will enhance the quality of experience in the North East, provide new social opportunities, and develop new or expand on existing skills in the UK.

Skills

We will meet one afternoon or morning, every two weeks for learning and planning. This will include tours of the museum and gallery spaces. Once confident you can deliver your own "tour" at a timetable agreed with yourself and the venue.

Ideally you will have conversational English. You should be interested in arts, culture, history or science including museums and gallery collections.

You will be friendly and comfortable working with the public.
