Gardener

Main Activities: Will include any of the tasks below depending on the location, skills and interests.

  • Plant management (sowing / planting / pruning / weeding etc.)
  • Working in our Greenhouse areas with students (and tutors) cultivating vegetables, fruit and flowers
  • Lawn management (mowing, weeding)
  • Planters and tubs (designing, planting and caring for)
  • Watering garden areas
  • Weeding garden areas
  • Garden design

This role forms part of Volunteer Passport Scheme Newcastle and requires you to complete one day of training with Newcastle City Learning. If you would like to apply please email Pam.Robinson@volunteeringmatters.org.uk

Skills

  • A passion for the benefits that outdoor spaces can bring
  • An interest in gardening or a willingness to learn!
  • The ability to work outdoors
  • Be physically fit enough to carry out some of the example activities above

We will provide all the tools, gloves, plants and materials you will need and will store these safely on our sites. We will develop a risk assessment for you in this role to ensure that you and everyone around you is kept safe.

  • Ongoing support
    We have a staff Gardener who can support and guide Volunteers.
  • Training provided
    We will provide all the training that you need to work on our sites and ensure that you receive training in the use of any mechanical equipment.
  • Volunteer induction
    We provide a full induction process and a named staff support person for every volunteer.
  • Volunteers covered by insurance
    We also hold full public liability insurance cover that covers volunteers undertaking activities on behalf of the Foundation.
