If you’re passionate about local history and heritage – this is the role for you! Our heritage volunteers help visitors learn more about St. Mary’s Heritage Centre’s long and storied past and its place in the community from the eleventh century right through to the present.
What you will be
doing
- Being present when we’re open to the public to greet visitors and answer any questions they may have.
- Aiding with the protection, interpretation and curation of artefacts, grave markers and plaques on display.
- Potentially delivering heritage talks and tours of St. Mary’s and the grounds.
- Heritage volunteers may also be invited to help out with the school trips we offer at St. Mary’s.
- Heritage Volunteers report to our Communications Officer, but you will be supervised by another member of staff depending on the task – you will be told in advance who to report to.

- Good communications skills and enthusiasm
- A willingness to be a team player; to support and listen to staff and other volunteers.
- A willingness to learn.
- Some knowledge of the local area and its history would be great– but lots of information about St. Mary’s will be provided.

The building is fully accessible and has accessible toilets. The role is flexible to accommodate for volunteer needs in terms of being able to deliver a graveyard tour on uneven ground, or if different formats of information are needed. - DBS check required
