Lemington Shop Assistant

This role is predominantly to assist the shop manager in all aspects of retail activity on the shop floor ensuring all customers are handled in a courteous and professional manner in line with SVP values and ethos:

• Handling cash and card transactions
• Promoting and taking gift aid information
• Making stock control checks
• Developing shop and window displays
• Checking quality of stock items e.g. electrical goods, clothing rips or holes
• Pricing of stock items
• Sorting stock items
• Steaming and cleaning stock items
• Ensuring shop floor and back rooms are clean and tidy
• To work with the shop manager to ensure the working environment if safe and welcoming to all SVP members, volunteers and customers
• To support any financial targets the shop has been set
• To encourage the take up of gift aid applications from customers
• To display SVP values at all times when working with colleagues and dealing with customers

• Able to answer any specific questions about stock and prices / promotions
• Able to handle gift aid enquiries and promote it to customers
• Flexible with hours committed and reliable to be called upon at short notice
• Able to deal with customer complaints or refer them to the appropriate person
• Able to handle financial transactions
• Able to identify opportunities for improvement in shop processes or ways of working
• Is articulate and able to answer the phone
• Able to handle general enquiries / or pass them on to the relevant person
• Has a good knowledge of retail environments
