Volunteer Mentor - Male

The Salvation Army’s Survivor Support Service works alongside governmental (statutory) and non-governmental services by providing practical and holistic support to survivors of modern slavery.


Through the mentoring programme, we support people on their journey from victim to survivor:


  • Support the client to identify and establish goals
  • Provide the client with tools and techniques to navigate a pathway to achieve their goals
  • Provide practical support to the client where appropriate (eg signposting)
  • Liaise with the client and fellow mentor to arrange safe and suitable meeting places
  • Liaise with the client and fellow mentor to plan fortnightly meeting time and date
  • Debrief with your fellow mentor after each meeting and provide a brief written record of the discussion for the Mentoring Coordinator
  • Work with your fellow mentor to model ‘healthy community’
  • Manage own and clients’ refreshment expenses and reimbursement

  • A passion for transforming the lives of people who have been affected by modern slavery
  • Sensitive interpersonal and social skills
  • Ability to keep confidences
  • Reliability and good time keeping
  • Commitment to safeguarding and a willingness to raise concerns where necessary
  • Experience of supporting others navigating new situations and achieving goals
  • Ability to build strong and professional relationship with fellow mentor and client
  • Access to car/public transport and flexibility around location to meet at.12-month commitment period
  • Meet with client and fellow mentor fortnightly for approximately 2 hours
