Befriending & Enablement Volunteer

Befriending service for older people living alone in their own home - lunch clubs; social outings; men's group; shopping trips; visiting service. Preserve/increase physical and mental well-being of older people through meaningful activities.

  • To supply short-term support and companionship whether it be by telephone, befriending or enablement.
  • You will be supporting people who are housebound or who need to reconnect with people and their local community of North Tyneside

Volunteering will usually be required for periods of a couple of hours, this will be between the hours of 9.00am and 3.00/4.00pm.

You must be able to commit to the 6 weeks, where possible. e.g. 2 hours a week for 6 weeks. This is to ensure regular support to the member.

Skills

  • You need to be able to connect with people and have good listening and motivational skills.
  • All of our volunteers undergo personal interviews, enhanced DBS checks and relevant training.
