Gateshead Community Cafe Cook

We are looking for a compassionate and confident Café Cook with strong batch cooking experience. This role would particularly suit someone with previous UK school kitchen experience who understands the importance of children’s nutrition and preparing balanced meals at scale.

• Batch cooking nutritious, home-cooked meals for children and families
• Preparing balanced meals suitable for different age groups
• Working creatively with surplus ingredients to minimise waste
• Adapting meals based on available stock
• Ensuring appropriate portion sizes for children
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
• Ensuring compliance with allergen regulations and Natasha’s Law
• Managing stock rotation (FIFO) and safe food storage
• Catering for dietary requirements and allergies
• Already have or willing to study Food Safety and Allergen qualifications

Skills

• Previous experience working in a professional kitchen
• Strong batch cooking experience
• Understanding of children’s nutritional needs
• Ability to work flexibly and creatively with changing ingredients
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• Knowledge of allergen awareness and food safety compliance
• Reliable, organised, and able to work independently
