Power Through Sport CIC is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support delivery of Park Nights 2026 across North Tyneside, Newcastle and South Shields.
Park Nights is a detached youth work project delivered in local parks during the spring and summer months. Sessions are informal and engaging, often including music, sport activities and our on-site pizza trailer — creating a positive space that attracts and connects with young people in their own communities.
As a Park Nights Volunteer, you will support qualified staff to engage young people aged 11–16, assist with activities, and help maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain practical community and youth work experience.
The role involves evening sessions throughout the spring and summer. No formal coaching qualification is required — reliability, confidence and a genuine interest in supporting young people are key.
As a Park Nights Volunteer, you will:
- Support engagement with young people through informal conversation, sport and relationship-building
- Assist qualified staff to facilitate inclusive sport and physical activity sessions
- Help set up and pack away equipment safely
- Support sign-ins and attendance registers.
- Encourage positive behaviour through role modelling respectful communication and boundaries
- Support staff in managing group behaviour and conflict (with guidance)
- Help create a welcoming environment where young people feel safe, respected and included
- Follow safeguarding guidance and report any concerns to staff immediately
- Represent Power Through Sport CIC positively within local communities
Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of one Park Nights session per week during the delivery period (spring/summer). Consistency is essential for building trust with young people and maintaining a positive presence within local communities.

- Any experience coaching sport or supporting activity delivery
- Studying towards a qualification in sport, youth work, education, criminology, social work, health, or community development
- First Aid qualification (not required)

Park Nights is committed to inclusivity and welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities. The role takes place outdoors in local parks and open spaces across North Tyneside, Newcastle and South Shields during evening sessions (April–September). Terrain may include grass, uneven ground and public pathways. Volunteers are required to engage with young people, support informal sports activities, assist with equipment setup/pack-down and work alongside staff in active community environments. We are happy to discuss and implement reasonable adjustments to support volunteers in fulfilling the role. Adjustments may include modified responsibilities, additional staff support, flexibility around physical tasks, or tailored session involvement depending on individual needs. Volunteers will be fully supported throughout their time with Park Nights. This includes: - An induction covering the organisation, safeguarding procedures and expectations - Safeguarding and practical guidance on working safely with young people - Ongoing supervision from the Sports Development Officer and experienced staff - On-the-job mentoring during sessions to build confidence and skills - Clear guidance when managing behaviour or challenging situations - Regular feedback and development conversations Volunteers are never expected to lead sessions independently and will always work alongside trained staff. - Training provided
Power Through Sport CIC also offers a Coach Development Pathway for those seeking vocational experience. Volunteers can work towards 100 hours of supported delivery, with mentoring from experienced staff. Subject to commitment and performance, PTS may support volunteers to access relevant CPD and qualifications — for example, a Level 2 Multi-Skills Coaching Qualification — supporting progression into paid coaching or youth work roles. - Volunteer induction
Yes. All volunteers will attend a structured induction session delivered during the week commencing 30th March. This session will include all Park Nights staff and volunteers. The induction will cover: - An overview of Power Through Sport CIC and the Park Nights project - Safeguarding procedures and reporting processes -Roles and responsibilities -Expectations, boundaries and professional conduct -Health and safety guidance for outdoor delivery -Practical preparation for sessions This ensures all team members feel confident, informed and prepared before delivery begins. - Volunteer Policy
