Mary’s Place is a small volunteer led charity offering a free café service to the homeless and those in need. We provide simple hot and cold food and drinks, chosen by our guests from a menu. Additionally, we offer clothes, toiletries, sleeping bags when we have them. We have operated since 2021 and have grown from a handful of guests to averaging over 40 each week. Many of our guests are regulars but there are always new faces every week.
We need Volunteers -
- in the kitchen (preparing food) – Training Level 2 Hygiene &Food Prep is provided. We offer simple food from a menu , for example, Baked potatoes, Soup, Eggs, Toasties
- serving (taking orders and delivering the food),
- making drinks – teas, coffees, juices
- welcoming guests at the door – taking and recording first names, managing the queue (when appropriate)
Possible applicants are welcome to visit to see us in action before they apply.
Skills
No previous experience is necessary but skills/qualities include:
- A warm and welcoming smile
- A non-judgemental attitude
- A nice manner and (sometimes) lots of patience
- The ability to “not be too fazed” by situations – calm, composed.
- If working in the kitchen, appropriate Training is given and a Level 2 in Food Prep and Hygiene will be achieved

Availability Details
Monday 8.15 to 1.30pm. Volunteers will be on a rota and are normally required once a month (though it may be 3 weeks during holiday periods)
