Trustee

  • North Tyne Youth (NTY) works with young people aged 8-18 years in rural north-west Northumberland.
  • Since 2020, NTY has been a registered charity with employees, volunteers and a board of trustees.
  • We run regular youth clubs in Otterburn, Bellingham, Humshaugh and Kirkwhelpington, lunch clubs at local schools and occasional outreach ‘pop-up’ sessions.
  • We offer a wide range of recreational activities and provide opportunities for young people to meet and make friends.
  • Demand for our services has greatly increased, reflecting young people’s need for support and the lack of other youth provision.
  • We work in partnership with other local providers and are primarily funded through trusts and other grant-making organisations.
  • We have a brilliant team of dedicated staff who manage and run the charity on a daily basis, but we cannot run the charity without trustees.
  • Being a trustee is a responsibility but is not as great a time commitment as you might think. We ask that trustees are prepared to commit to attending evening meetings every 6-8 weeks, in person or online, be willing to answer email/whatsapp queries when they arise, be willing to support our youth workers, be willing to undertake occasional intermittent tasks as agreed by the Board, comply with our governing document, charity law requirements and other applicable laws and authorise bank payments as part of our financial security checks.
  • Therefore, if you are passionate about the quality of young people’s lives, are over 18, can give a small amount of time, would like to develop your skills and want to support a friendly, local charity, then please do get in touch.

This role is mainly remote although attending the occasional meeting in Otterburn, Northumberland throughout the year would be good.

  • charity law and governance
  • leadership and strategic management
  • chairing charities/community-based organisations

  • financial management
  • volunteer recruitment and development

  • promotion and marketing.

If you do not believe you have any of these skills but feel like you have something else to offer or would like to develop your skills, please do get in touch.
