Help run a week of free activity holidays for children aged 6-13 who are from a range of disadvantaged backgrounds.
Most people who volunteer do so as group leaders – the people who make Campus “better than Christmas”, as one child put it. On our Residential project you will be assigned to a group of 4-6 children, together with one or two other group leaders, and on our Hippocampus project all volunteers work together to look after all of the children. As a group leader your core responsibilities would include:
- Ensuring that the children are safe and supported at all times
- Making sure the children are having fun and entertaining them whilst out on activities
- Getting the children to bed each night
- Providing piggy backs/bedtime stories/a human canvas for face painting
Our activity holidays mostly take place either around North Yorkshire or Liverpool. Precise addresses are given after interview.

- Ongoing support
Campus makes every effort to support new group leaders and to prepare them in advance: - You will always be joined by an experienced helper and often a young helper (an ex-Campus kid), so you’ll be with someone who’s seen it all before. - Each group is carefully planned and you’ll be told about any pre-existing issues with children we know about, as well as ways to deal with problems that may arise. - Senior members of Campus (the Co-ordinators) will also be on site throughout the week to help with any issues, and will check in with you to see if you need extra support. - Training provided
Opportunities to complete further Child Protection and First-Aid training are available for repeat volunteers. - Volunteer induction
Campus provides a compulsory training session on arrival, where we cover the essentials of Child Protection and how to deal with difficult behaviour. - Volunteer Policy
- Volunteers covered by insurance
All driving during the week is covered by our insurance, for those volunteers who drive. We also have public liability insurance. - Written role description
