If you are a student at one of the local universities you may be interested to know that Newcastle University and Northumbria University strongly encourage student volunteering.
Please note: student placements, although normally unpaid, are not what we would consider to be community volunteering. Volunteer Centre Newcastle is unable to find you a student placement, but do speak to your universities career service.
Go Volunteer (Newcastle University)
Go Volunteer is part of NUSU and helps students and staff at Newcastle University to find the ideal community volunteering opportunity for you within our city. Anyone can volunteer, it doesn’t matter who you are or what experience you have.
Go Volunteer is designed with students in mind and requires no previous experience. As well as running our own exciting student-led projects we also have some great links to a wide variety of charities and worthwhile organisations within the local community.
There are one off as well as regular long-term opportunities, so whether it’s volunteering with children, helping the elderly or doing a spot of gardening Go Volunteer will find the project for you.

– Appeared in newspapers, on radio and television
– Made friends.
– Gained skills.
– Had fun!
VN is “student led” and open to all Northumbria students, that means Northumbria students decide what happens and ALL their exciting projects are led by students.
