Group sponsors are essential to ensure the Group lead has the space and visibility within the organisation to build a single parent community where members can share coping strategies and build lasting connections.
As a Group Sponsor you are responsible for advocating for and promoting the Single Parent Group at a senior level, as well as ensuring the volunteer Group lead can fulfil their role effectively by being available to talk through any organisational issues that arise.
The aims of a Gingerbread Group are to increase the wellbeing of single parents through developing meaningful connections and friendships and facilitating access to peer support through sharing experiences or coping mechanisms and accessing our online community.
The main activity of a group is to meet in-person and/or online. Gingerbread recommends that Gingerbread groups meet for an hour once a month as a minimum.
The format, frequency and location should be decided by the Group lead to suit the needs of group members.
Groups sponsors enable the Group leads to support single parents within an organisation through being a point of contact for any internal logistics that come up, holding check-ins with the Group lead and ensuring the group is advocated for at a higher level and visible to single parents within the organisation.
As Group Sponsor we would ask you keep in touch with the Group Leads to check in around how the group is progressing and if there are any areas you could support with.
- Advocate for the Gingerbread Groups Offer at a senior level
- Be able to accurately inform single parents about the Group Offer and what to expect
- Hold regular check-ins (as dictated by Group Lead and Sponsor but we would recommend every 3-4 months) with Group Lead
- Be available for Group Lead to talk through any concerns that may arise which are on an organisational level
- Liaise with Gingerbread around any necessary concerns
