Great North Run 2026 Cheer Squad

Join us on Sunday 13 September to cheer on our incredible team of 170 runners as they take on the Great North Run.

Experience the magic of the iconic Great North Run with a front row seat to the action!

We need enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers who can cheer as loudly as possible for our runners as they go past our cheer point.

You’ll need to help create a high energy, friendly atmosphere, motivating everyone on race day to do their best.

Our runners have worked hard on their fundraising and training for months, and they deserve the best cheering squad on route to tell them what an amazing job they’re doing.

Volunteering at this event is also an opportunity to have fun, meet new people and experience some wonderful community spirit whilst contributing towards our mission.

By joining Shelter’s volunteer team, you’ll receive a free Shelter T-shirt and we’ll have lots of cheering props. You won’t only be making noise for our runners – you’ll be making noise for everyone’s right to a safe home.
