We’re looking for friendly, creative volunteers to help make our weekly Ladies and Men’s Shed sessions welcoming and enjoyable for patients.
You’ll support activities, offer refreshments and conversation, and help create a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere while assisting staff with session set up.
Tuesdays, 1pm to 3.30pm | St Oswald’s Hospice, Gosforth
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys arts, crafts and meeting people.
In return, you’ll gain valuable experience, meet new people, be part of a supportive team and make a real difference lives of our patients. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
- Help staff set up the room and activity materials before each session.
- Welcome patients, offer refreshments and help people settle in.
- Spend time with patients during activities, offering conversation, encouragement and practical help with the activities.
- Let Focus on Living staff know if someone may need extra support.
- Recording information on SystemOne.
Skills
- Able to help with setting up, activities and tidying away.
- Friendly, approachable and comfortable talking with patients.
- Able to follow staff guidance and work well as part of a team.
- Interested in creative, practical or social activities.
- Able to respect confidentiality and maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Basic IT confidence for using SystemOne, training will be provided.
- Organised and practical.
- Friendly, welcoming and approachable.
