Tyneside Outdoors, a youth and community charity that aims to help people living in disadvantaged areas of Tyneside access and enjoy the outdoors and to use it for their own health, learning and development.
As a Trustee you will:
- Assist in ensuring the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document
- Assist in ensuring the organisation is managed in such a way that meets its legal obligations required by law
- Actively contribute to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, including the setting overall policy, goals, targets and evaluating performance against these
- Provide advice and guidance on areas relevant to the organisation's work
- Support the development of the organisation by acting as ambassador for its work
- Support the organisation's fundraising in order to carry out its work effectively
- Support the development of the organisation's public perception as a caring and professional organisation and a charity in need of support
- Have a genuine interest in the outdoors
- Be committed to equal opportunities for service users, staff and volunteers
- Provide your time freely in order to carry out your role as a trustee effectively
- Provide your professional and or personal advice on matters relating to the work of the organisation and its development
- Attend meetings on behalf of the organisation - Trustee meetings every 3 months and other meetings where appropriate, and attend to any business that arises from these
- Communicate and receive information via email and to do so in a timely and business like manner
In addition to the above Trustees are asked to work proactively to support the organisation, staff, volunteers and service users and to support and encourage new ideas to develop the work of the organisation.
Skills
As an organisation that is committed to providing safe, supportive environments for children, young people and vulnerable adults, you will be required to hold a current (less than 3 years old) DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate.
A Trustee should have a commitment to the organisation and its objectives, a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee, strategic vision, a willingness to speak their mind and an ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Trustees must be able to attend meetings, and to read papers in advance of meetings, to attend sub-committee meetings as appropriate, to keep informed about the activities of the organisation and wider issues which affect its work and to participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff, helping with fundraising / events, etc.
As a representative of the organisation's management structure the behaviour and conduct of trustees is expected to reflect both their respective professional capacities and those of a trusted charity representative.
Trustees are required to work within and develop the role of a trustee and to provide and receive support from other trustees and senior staff in order to ensure the smooth running and development of the organisation.
