Newcastle Vision Support is seeking active and enthusiastic individuals to join our fortnightly Visually Impaired Walking Group. Our walks take place in and around Newcastle upon Tyne, conveniently close to public transport and facilities. Each walk lasts approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour and concludes with a well-deserved brew and a chat at a local café.
As a volunteer, you will be responsible for guiding a sight-impaired participant during the walk. It is important to remain attentive to potential hazards and verbally inform participants about any risks you encounter. You will also collaborate with other volunteers and staff to help direct the group, assist with drink orders, plan routes, conduct reconnaissance (recce) walks, and contribute to risk assessments.
We are looking for individuals who have a passion for walking and the outdoors, and who want to make these experiences accessible for visually impaired people in creative ways, such as through descriptive walks and historical themes.
