We are looking for an Arabic speaker to support with our planned group activities. As an interpreter volunteer, you will support members who attend our tenancy awareness workshops, member forums, health & wellbeing days, Skylight events and other social activities.
You will have the required language as your first or second language OR are working towards a level 2 interpreting qualification.
As an interpreter volunteer you will be enabling those experiencing homelessness who don’t have English as their first language to engage in activities in their spoken language. You will be helping us to communicate with them in a way that values and enables the individual to express themselves and understand.
What will I be doing?
Tasks you will support with include:
- Attending planned group activities, which may include member forums, health and wellbeing days, Skylight events, and social activities.
- Interpreting for a member during those sessions, enabling them to participate
- Translating posters and event information for the team.

Skills
To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who:
- Is fluent in speaking and understanding the advertised language(s) and comfortable completing verbal translation and interpretation.
- Has excellent English language skills – you will need a minimum Level 2 (C1 or Upper intermediate in all skills (speaking, reading, writing, and listening)
- You will have the language we are looking for as your first language and a higher education qualification in your mother tongue OR a level 2 interpreting qualification OR you are currently studying towards a level 2 interpreting qualification.
- Has some knowledge of the culture and practices of the countries the language is spoken.
- Is a good listener and able to communicate with members in an empathetic and compassionate way.
- Understands the importance of keeping an individual’s personal information secure and private and working within the boundaries of the role to keep everyone safe.
- Is passionate about standing with Crisis and our members to end homelessness.
What do I need to do this role?
- As part of your recruitment, you will need to provide details for one referee, and where relevant provide evidence of qualifications or training.
