Driver (personal car)

You could be the difference between someone never leaving their home, or getting outside and reengaging with their local neighbourhood!

Good Neighbours are urgently looking for drivers who can take socially isolated people out into the community in their cars. We have a list of outstanding requests of people who really want to get out of their home and into the outside world, and they all need a driver. Could this be you?

The tasks you’ll get to engage with include the following:

• Meeting and driving people from their homes out to pre-agreed community locations. These could be shops, garden centres or friends’ houses. They might also be pre-arranged medical appointments, such as at a local GP surgery. We don’t expect you to drive outside Newcastle.
• Where necessary, helping people to/from their house and into or around the place they’re visiting. This may involve pushing them in a wheelchair or just helping them get into and out of your car
• You’ll get to talk to the people and hear their stories along the way.
• Mileage can be reimbursed at the rate of 45p/mile.

This role is community-based and so will depend on your own requirements, vehicle and destinations. You can speak to Matthew on 07375 255342 with any concerns before applying.

Skills

• You’ll need your own car for this role, along with a UK driving licence and valid car insurance.
• We’ll ask you to read and agree to our Driving and Vehicles Policy as part of your application.
