Explorers Team Leader (Ages 14-18)

Help the ""future makers"" start a brand-new story.

We are relaunching our Explorer unit, and we need a ""go-getter"" to lead the way for our 14 to 18-year-olds. T

his is a tricky challenge but an amazing chance to build something from the ground up.

You will:

  • - Help young people step up and take charge of their own adventures, from mountain treks to community projects.
  • Encourage them to work under their own steam, giving them the independence they need for school, college, or that first job interview.
  • Think on your feet to support a unit that is shaped by the big dreams of the young people themselves.
  • Build a sense of belonging where every Explorer feels welcome and ready to ""give it a go"".
  • Lead an inspiring programme that focuses on ""skills for life,"" fun, and friendship.

Skills

You don't need to be an expert camper or a knot-tying pro—we value your personality above all else. We are looking for people who are:

  • Relatable and grounded: Someone who can talk human-to-human with young people and volunteers.
  • Ready to give it a go: A ""go-getter"" who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty or try something new alongside the Scouts.
  • Inclusive: Someone who believes everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.
  • Team players: Happy to work with other adults to deliver an inspiring programme.

    Must be 18+. Under 18s may volunteer as young leaders.

    Yes - expenses related to activities. Weekly travel costs not covered. Costs for camps, overnights & adventurous activites are also covered.

    Absolutely. We make sure you’re never 'doing your own thing' alone. We’ll pair you up with a buddy—a friendly face to help you get to grips with the role from day one. - We offer a four-week trial period so you can 'give it a go' and see if it's the right fit for you. - You’ll be joining a fantastic, supportive team where we keep things flexible; many of our volunteers help out fortnightly or for as little or as much time as they can spare
  • Training provided
    Yes. We believe in helping you gain skills for life, too. You can work towards the internationally recognised 'Wood Badge' or join our permit scheme to lead adventurous activities. Our District is brilliant at funding training for adventurous activity permits, so if you've ever wanted to get qualified in things like climbing or kayaking, we’re here to help you make it happen.
  • Volunteer induction
    Yes. We’ll help you get started with the right tools and support. You’ll have access to Scouts' online and in-person training that covers all the essentials. This includes learning how to keep young people safe, first aid, and how to plan a great programme that is full of fun and adventure.
