Scouts Team Member (10.5–14 years)

Helping young people step up and speak up starts here. We’re looking for friendly faces to join our team at the Scout hall (or out in the woods!) to help our 10 to 14-year-olds get thinking and get stuck into all kinds of things that give them skills for life.

As a Team Member, you’ll be part of the fun, friendship, and adventure by:

  • Mucking in with weekly activities, from fire-lighting and first aid to coding and cooking.
  • Thinking on your feet to help a Scout who’s stuck on a tricky challenge.
  • Being a high-fiver and a tea-maker, providing the encouragement young people need to try, try again.
  • Playing your part in planning exciting trips and outdoor adventures that build a sense of belonging.
  • Stepping into their shoes to listen to young people’s big ideas and help make them happen.

Play your part and get them started sooner. We offer priority spots to the children of parents and carers who volunteer to help us run our sessions.

Skills

You don't need to be an expert camper or a knot-tying pro—we value your personality above all else. We are looking for people who are:

  • Relatable and grounded: Someone who can talk human-to-human with young people and volunteers.
  • Ready to give it a go: A ""go-getter"" who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty or try something new alongside the Scouts.
  • Inclusive: Someone who believes everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.
  • Team players: Happy to work with other adults to deliver an inspiring programme.

  • Accessibility
We are a movement open to all. We use positive, person-first language and are committed to supporting volunteers with disabilities to play their part. Please let us know what you need to be successful; we are happy to discuss how we can adapt the role to suit your requirements.

Must be 18+. Under 18s may volunteer as young leaders.

  • Ongoing support
Absolutely. We make sure you’re never 'doing your own thing' alone. We’ll pair you up with a buddy—a friendly face to help you get to grips with the role from day one. - We offer a four-week trial period so you can 'give it a go' and see if it's the right fit for you. - You’ll be joining a fantastic, supportive team where we keep things flexible; many of our volunteers help out fortnightly or for as little or as much time as they can spare
  • Training provided
Yes. We believe in helping you gain skills for life, too. You can work towards the internationally recognised 'Wood Badge' or join our permit scheme to lead adventurous activities. Our District is brilliant at funding training for adventurous activity permits, so if you've ever wanted to get qualified in things like climbing or kayaking, we’re here to help you make it happen.
  • Volunteer induction
Yes. We’ll help you get started with the right tools and support. You’ll have access to Scouts' online and in-person training that covers all the essentials. This includes learning how to keep young people safe, first aid, and how to plan a great programme that is full of fun and adventure.
