Step up, speak up, and lead the way.
As a Young Leader, you’re not just a helper—you’re a role model.
You’ll be mucking in with our Beaver, Cub, or Scout sections while working through your own Young Leader training scheme.
You will:
- Get stuck into the action by helping to run games, messy crafts, and outdoor adventures.
- Help younger Scouts try, try again when they are learning a new skill like tying a knot or building a fire.
- Think on your feet to help solve tricky challenges during a busy session.
- Take charge of small groups to help them get thinking and work together as a team.
- Learn by doing as you gain your own leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills for the future.
A quick note on sections:
We want you to have the best experience possible!
You can join our Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts, and while we’ll always try to match you with your first-choice section, we sometimes have to think on our feet to make sure our teams are balanced.
To keep things fair and focused, we can only take up to two Young Leaders per section..
Skills
You don't need to be an expert camper or a knot-tying pro—we value your personality above all else. We are looking for people who are:
- Relatable and grounded: Someone who can talk human-to-human with young people and volunteers.
- Ready to give it a go: A ""go-getter"" who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty or try something new alongside the Scouts.
- Inclusive: Someone who believes everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.
- Team players: Happy to work with other adults to deliver an inspiring programme.

We are big on 'learning by doing' to help you gain skills for the future. - The Young Leader Training Scheme: You’ll complete a structured programme that helps you step up and speak up as a leader. - Skills for the future: You’ll gain experience in mucking in (teamwork) and thinking on your feet (problem solving). - Practical and character skills: We’ll help you build the sticking at it (tenacity) and independence you need for school, college, university, or that first job interview. - Recognised success: The training you do here is a brilliant way to show you are a go-getter who is ready for a challenge. - Volunteer induction
