Our Telephone Befriending service aims to reduce the social isolation many people with a disability experience.
Volunteers are asked to commit 2-3 hours of their time each week on a day that suits them and contact our clients who have requested the service. Each call can vary but last approximately 15 minutes depending on the individual client.
This is a flexible home based role where volunteers can choose which days and times they are available
Skills
- Volunteers must be over 18 years old
- Access to their own phone to use for making calls
- Commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week
- A sensitive attitude towards other people
- To be open minded and non-judgemental
- A friendly and patient approach
- Enthusiastic with a positive attitude
- Good communication skills
- An awareness or experience of the issues affecting people with a disability or long term health condition
- Reliable and trustworthy
