Trustee Lead will take a central role in strengthening our internal structure, ensuring our policies are robust, legally aligned, and reflective of best practice within the UK charity sector. This role is particularly important as we expand community programmes, manage volunteers, engage with external partners, and apply for funding.
- This is a strategic board-level role. It is not operational management, but it requires hands-on governance leadership.
- Review and strengthen the organisation’s governance structure.
- Ensure clarity of roles between trustees, the CEO, and operational volunteers.
- Support the Board in maintaining compliance with Charity Commission expectations and trustee duties.
- Promote collective responsibility and ethical decision-making.
- Policy Development and Oversight
- Lead the creation, review, and updating of core organisational policies, including:
- Safeguarding (adults and children)
- Data protection and confidentiality
- Health and safety
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Volunteer management
- Financial controls and conflict of interest
- Establish a policy review calendar to ensure documents remain current and compliant.
- Ensure policies are practical, implementable, and clearly communicated.
This role will be weekly, hybrid - remote with travel to NE33 1DP or NE29 6DW
Skills
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in governance, compliance, policy drafting, or regulatory environments.
- Experience within charities, CICs, community organisations, or regulated sectors.
- Working knowledge of UK charity governance expectations.
- Confidence in reviewing legal or regulatory documents and translating them into practical policies.
